Amanohashidate has been designated by the government as an "extraordinary place of beauty."The natural splendor of Amanohashidate, with eight thousand green pines growing along 3.6 kilometers of white-sand beach, has often been a source of inspiration for Japanese artists. Perhaps the best known are the fifteenth-century painter Sesshu and the eighteenth-century haiku poet-painter Yosa Buson. It is said that the designers of the stunning gardens at Kinkakuji Temple (the Temple of the Golden Pavilion) and Katsura Imperial Villa used Amanohashidate as the principal motifs for their creations. It is our hope that Amanohashidate will be recognized as a natural treasure not only by the people of our city, but also by all Japanese and, indeed, by people the world over. |
The Preservation Association, which now has 300 members, was founded in 1965. Our primary aim has been to protect the natural environment of Amanohashidate, but our activities have also contributed to the economic development of our area (Miyazu City and the towns of Ine and Yozano). We continue to make every effort to accomplish our aims. |
